Balanced tank with a lot of plants

man, dosing flourish and excel? that's not a balanced tank... if it were balanced you wouldn't need to dose anything. I would really suggest more frequent water changes.

Here is an upcloser photo showing the pothos emerging from the external filter on top of the aquarium.

I top up the water with tap water occasionally.

By saying balanced tank, I only tried to mean that the fish wastes seem to be balanced by the plant uptake. I agree that there are many other unbalanced and unnatural aspects. Sorry if the title has been misleading.

The bamboo will probably do better if it is planted in a pot rather than in the tank, even if it's leaves are out of the water. My sister-in-law practically killed hers and then she potted it, and now it's 4 times bigger and really healthy.
