Bally's 40B

Just looks like the beginnings of GHA to me but maybe I'm not seeing something. Something isn't right with your numbers. Alk shouldn't be that high with Ca that low and Mg in the sweet spot. Are you dosing anything? The reason your Ca is low is because you are mixing your salt to 1.023. Mixing it to .025 to 0.026 should get you above 400 and hopefully in the 420 to 440 range.

I've been dosing the past few days, I usually mix my salt to .026, I justed tested it random one day. I'm dosing purple up and reef complete calcium. I'm going to test again today. Could my corals be sucking it up quickly because they were so deprived for a few months and are busy recovering?

I would hold off on dosing anything else and just do water changes and keep a focus on keeping SG stable. How are you measuring SG?

As for Ca uptake, consumption should happen in balance. Your alk is pretty high in comparison to Ca.

"At for Ca uptake, its all about balance. uptake should be similar across the board unless the ionic balance of the DT water is out of balance (stresses corals).

In each of these cases, what is being deposited is largely calcium carbonate. Since calcium and carbonate are present in pure calcium carbonate at exactly equal concentrations (one ion of calcium to one ion of carbonate), the removal rate of calcium and carbonate by all of the mechanisms described above should be the same. To a great extent, aquarists use alkalinity as a surrogate measure of carbonate (and bicarbonate). The exact balance between calcium and carbonate demand in a reef aquarium is therefore equally well described as a balance between calcium and alkalinity demand."

I think I was a little confusing... the water I measured at .023 was mixing in the bucket, it wasn't done yet. It doesn't go in my tank until .026. I'm measuring it with a refractometer. Well last night my bf came home from work and dosed both tanks, I was busy making muffins and didn't realize he was going to, today is wc day though.

Yesterdays results were
Ca: 315
kH:12.6
Mg: 1280

Ill test again today after my coffee and the wc

Here is a picture of my fuge, a 30 long that feeds into the 40 breeder. It still needs some work.... only things in there are feather dusters, a hermit crab I think, a growing population of bugs and lots of sponges. My mandarin will eventually live in there.

I'm getting my CUC today, any suggestions or personal favorites?

Fighting conch or two, nassarius snails, mexican turbos (probably 2 smaller ones), magarita snails and astraea snails. Not a fan of crabs myself but lots of options there as well. Tuxedo urchin are good too.

I have never seen numbers like that with BW salt (especially alk that high). Its possible the dosing threw the balance off and your Ca is low because it is precipitating out of solution.

Just found my 6 line Hush on the floor, she didn't flop when I touched her. Put her back in the tank just in case.

She's laying on the sand breathing heavily, has some fin damage. Keep your fingers crossed for my brave little girl :'(

No tops? :( Its something you should invest in considering how cheap it is to make one compared to the rest of the stuff we buy, took me losing a couple firefish before I did it on all my tanks though.
