oh and i never use it because whatever the substrate is i'm using (some package from petsmart that was 'good for plants) is too light. it just gets stuck up in the vacuum, so i gave up using it. it's just not good for me, but could be good for anyone else.

better idea, saving you money, and if you dont want to waste water... take a syphon hose, attach a sock or somthing that releases the water but keeps the gunk, put the sphon part in the water, the hose part with the sock or whatever attached to the end in a bucket ( so you can put the water back in the tank ) or leave the hose at the other end of the tank, and syphon that way.. your saving water from the tank while taking a bunch of gunk out from the gravel.. how i know this works? i use to do this ALOT..

Because not everyone is savvy with searching or knowing where to buy online. Excuse me for trying to help. If you didn't want to go to Amazon then ignore the reply.

I don't believe your initial reply was anything but snarky. If I was able to find my way onto Aquariacentral and figure it out, then I'd be more than capable of finding Amazon and figuring that out too.

The fact is, I'm getting pretty tired of almost every time I post in the classified to buy something, someone links me to another place to buy what I came on HERE to buy. If I don't want to buy on the classifieds here, then I wouldn't have come on and posted. And if I was looking for outside sources, then I would have posted asking for them.

I shouldn't have to post every time that I obviously know that other places sell what I'm looking for.

How would the siphon work if I have both ends in the tank? I've never tried that but it doesn't sound like it would work... Or would it?

I'm wondering, at this point, if a battery transfer pump that I stick a sock onto will work just as well. They sell for a couple of dollars on Ebay.

worked for me actually, i have one end of the syphon on one side of the tank, and the other end ( sock end ) on the other end of the tank, and bingo, got it working :) , actually just make sure you suck the water first to get suction, then put your fingers over the end hole, put the end in the water and the suction should keep on at well sucking the gunk out :)

wont work drain end has to be lower than water surface.

wont work unless battery powered one was used. if not how did you start it? with your head under water?

even if you started it before you put the other end in the water it still will not work.

No it WAS anything but snarky. I was just trying to help. It was what you wanted and I was trying to help.

Again, no one forced you to click on the link so you could have ignored it instead of being a jerk.
