I used clown loaches to clean up my snails. I never had issues with clown loaches catching ich. However, it is true that they're very suspectible to ich. I'd never buy one as long as i see an white spot one of their tank mates.
I didn't think yoyo loaches would eat snails. However, after purchasing, it does seem to eat smaller size snails.
Just use your big thumb and index fingers and squeeze the big snails to kill them. Leave the rest to the loaches.

I set my 55g. fw planted tank a few months ago. Seems it doesnt matter where you get plants from, you will almost always inherit some snails, IME anyway. From my reading on here, I checked them carefully for snails before adding to the tank, but didnt think (DUH! 
) to look for eggs. Now I have plenty of snails, which I have even shared with my sister 
(and she has cussed me eversince!) . The LFS has ordered some yoyo loaches which should be in this week, and I cant wait, hoping they will put a dent in the snail population.
