Several manufacturers make a canister that will work fine on a 29. It will come down to what features they have that you like best and which model you find the easiiest to work with. Filters are pretty much up to your personal choice.

I have an Aquaclear AC70 on my 29; if you're looking for a hang-on-back style filter, it's a good choice.

penguin biowheels also make good choices for hang-on-backs, their biowheels have great biological filtration

I have penguin on a 55 and do not like it. it does not keep my tank clean at all and i want canister....

I use nothing but fluval canister filters for my larger tanks. The aquaclear hang on backs are nice filters also. Fluval just came out with the 205,305,405 series but they still make and sell the 204,305,404 series. You can get them pretty cheap new on ebay. Goodluck

Best? I dunno, but I like these, not in order.

Marineland Magnum 350
Renas XP1 or XP2
Marineland C-220 or C-360

If you want the floating in air look, cant go wrong with a Magnum 350 with Micron cartridge running 24-7. However expect to do cleaning about 1-2 weeks depending on stock. If you only want to be cleaning once a month or so, go with either the XP series or C series.
