Best way to Euthenize a sick fish.

I read somewhere that dipping it in vodka causes instant death. I've never tried it though.

the vodka (or other "booze") doesn't have a high enough alcohol content, hence the 70% or higher Isopropyl Rubbing alcohol tip.

when I was a kid, I had to kill a bird with a shovel one day, after a cat had ripped it's eyes out in my backyard. I didn't hit it hard enough the first time.

this is still with me 30 years later... I think the clove oil would be easier for me.
****... i guess you should have lifted weights as a kid LOL

You would rather watch it suffer dvd? I have a really tough time doing it, but when you see something suffering it changes your mind. I'll be picking up some clove oil on my next trip to WalMart

EahInMass - I read somewhere that to cool a fish relatively slowly is painful for it. Better (quicker death) to cool the water down first until a film of ice forms across its surface and then put the fish in that.

But since neither of these methods have been mentioned here, perhaps they are both outdated? Can anyone clarify?

To cool it slowly would be putting it in the freezer with a fairly large amount of water. I guess to those of us who haven't heard of clove oil before and aren't into "smacking" our fish around...it didn't seem like such a bad idea of the past....

If i was a fish i would want to die in a pint of beer.. but im not a fish.. but it still sounds like fun

What is clove oil? Is it the oil that kills it?
You have to be one fast person to get a fish out of water and cut it's head off in a short enough period of time to consider it not a form of torture. I once severed the spine of a lobster and cooked it on the grill. The thing had the texture of rubber by the time it quit twitching---kinda like a chicken with its head chopped off.
Anesthesia sounds the best way to me! Bring on the vodka.
