Betta Compatible Fish???

Go fish yourself.
Hi, I recently took my betta out of his crappy vase and put him in a 5.5 gallon tank with live plants and a filter. The tank looks beautiful and he's doing great! I will be adding a couple of apple snails soon but I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on other types of fish that would be good in this kind of setup. What do you guys think of those african dwarf frogs also? I'd like a little variety but I don't want to overstock the tank, and I understand about adding new critters slowly for cycling the tank.

Thanks for your input!!!

Hi Kate! Glad to here your Betta is healthy and happy...Did you add the true apple snail? or Brigs (mystery snail)? Apple snails can get huge (baseball sized) and a pair if m/f will breed in that tank...Personnally, i would keep the stock load where it is and do weekly 75 percent water changes...The suggest gal/snail load is 2.5 gals per snail...

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm not sure what kind of snail it is exactly (I'm a beginner), but the breeder told me that these ones grow to be about 1.5-2 inches. I explained my setup to him and he said it would be a good environment for them. So, I guess they're not "true" apple snails. I heard about the snail eggs being pink and floating at the top, so I would remove them if I saw them (because I definitely don't want a million snails)!

Do you think adding an african dwarf frog and maybe one or two other fish would be ok? What kind of fish are ok with bettas?

While I have had some success with guppies in with betas, it was in a 10 gallon without the snails. MQP is quite the beta affectionado, and I would take her advice over mine in that field any day.
