Betta dried up out of tank, lived.

what... i never use tops for my bettas and never will. I have had bettas over 2 years and not 1 jumped out. i guess i dont fill the tank to the top. but i think tops are annoying...

I came home the other day and sat around a bit before i noticed my betta wasn't in his tank. I checked behind the tank and sure enough he somehow jumped out. He was all dry and crusty looking like a cracker or cookie of some sort. I thought for sure he'd be dead. Instead when i touched him he started flapping around like any fish would. I put him back in his tank and its been 2 days and hes doing fine. at first his fins seemed to be glued together but now they seem fine. i guess that air breathing organ he has saved him because I don't know how long he was out for.

Had that happen with my red female, Ryoko. She was too stubborn to die. :P

Yeah, that labrynth organ saves a lot of jumping bettas from certain death!! I also had a royal giant female who was a persistent jumper. I ended up changing all my containers out for stackable plastic rectangular containers... all with lids!!

Honestly someone gave me the betta cuz they didn't want it anymore and i just took it in cuz they wanted to flush it. I suppose what i'm giving it is better than the toilet no?

It is still a living creature that can suffer no matter how much it is wanted. If you don’t want it or cant give it the proper care try giving it to a pet store. I am guessing you are on the young side; maybe one of your teachers at school would like to have it as a class pet, or you can give it to someone that can take proper care of it. At my local Kmart you can get a 2g tank for $17 this includes the under gravel filter, hood, light, gravel, a cave, plants. There must be something you can find to use as a cover around your house. You could even just get a piece of cardboard and poke air holes in it.
Bettas are tropical so I heater would be a good thing to buy...that would be about 15-20 bucks.
