My betta is in a Minibow and flares at one of those Utz snack chip bags that are red/white, he also has one "toy" ( a small Jigglepuff ) that is bright pink that he flares at. But he refuses to flare at a mirror or anything else, so try a variety of bright colored small objects that you can wiggle around to make it look like it is alive.
