Here's an idea for a 5 gallon tank for bettas..if you want to keep more than one. This tank has one of those mini penguins along with a heater. The dividers are a DIY job using plastic canvas and binder clips.

Hey EMG, nice tank. I love bettas, but i don't like the idea of having more than one tank all over the place, if you know what i mean. i have one now, in a 1-1.5 g tank. i'm fairly new to the whole thing. (i have a 20-g. at home that i've had for about a year now though...) I saw your above picture and clicked your link and saw more, but i love that idea of separating a bigger tank into smaller sections. i want to do that, but i have some questions. what exactly did you use to make those dividers? and also, i see you have a heater, so does it heat up the whole tank through the dividers? and i had a question about filtration. do you use filtration? and if so, how do you get it to cycle through all three sections? or do you just have three seperate smaller filtration devices? also, one more question, if i wanted to use filtration, and only one pump, is it safe to use it, seeing as how it'll only get water from one section, and pour in the same section, if the water level was high enough for a little of it to cross over?

sorry for all the questions, but i think it's a really good idea! and seeing as how i don't have much money cuz i'm in college, it seems perfect! I love bettas and i want more!! lol

hey emg, it also looks like you had a crown tail... (Jax?) i think it's a crown tail anyhow. if it is, where did you get it? and how much? i love crown tails soo much, and i want like a million. lol. (if it isn't a crown tail, please don't make me look too stupid. haha)

Lol Pheonix...yeah, Jax was a beautiful CT...I loved that fish, he was my absolute favorite of all the ones I had before and since...I found him at one of my LFSs...and the first time I saw him I passed him up because I already had 3 bettas... (little did I know..)...I was back at that LFS the next week and he was still there...so...I took him home ! :D I have been seeing CT in the local PetSmart in my area quite a bit lately....just keep an eye out..I only paid 4-5 $ for Jax....great steal !! Find out when the stores get them in and go the day they come...later in the afternoon, after they've had time to set them out. I find most stores save the bettas for last when they get a shipment, because they can stand to be in those bags longer than the other fish.

As far as the tank.....The divider is made from plastic canvas and binder clips siliconed to the side of the tank. Here's a link where I got this idea from...

Water flows through the dividers. I have a mini whisper filter in the 5 gallon and a mini penguin bio-wheel in the 10 gallon. The heaters work fine in these too. Make sure you cycle the tank before you put your fish in though..very important if you want them to be nice and healthy...and add them only one at a time or two at a time in the 10 gallon.

I have the smooth stones to keep thier fins from getting scraped up by ruff gravel, though since those pics were taken I've switched to Echo-Complete substrate for planted tanks. I didn't like the way the stones looked when all that diatrus or whatever it's called..settles on the bottom.

Good luck setting yours up ! I not only have those divided tanks...but lots of 1 gallons sitting around too...lol...if I had known what I would get myself into I may not have brought that first betta home !! LOL !
