Betta tank upgrade - what to do with the 1.5gallon?

I've never kept em myself, this is just from research. Different places list different tolerances-I'd say to be safe a PH of 6.5 and a min temp of 74-75. You can buy one of those mini heaters and use bottled water, just add some baking soda to buffer it. Plants could just be java moss and anubias nana.

The 6 gallon eclipse arrived and Speed the betta seems to love his new home. I put some old plastic plants I had in there and he keeps winding himself back and forth through the leaves playing hide and seek - he is definately more active with the extra room. Speed does need a pal or two - what about a female betta? My son also wants to do some shrimp, but I need to do some reading first.

As for the 1.5 gallon - I'm going to get a few more low light plants and take it to work. I think for now I'm going to get a smaller mystery snail (I love to watch them) and keep it there until it needs more room then we'll see what's next.

H. formosa killifish would be great and do very well at room temp too. you could easily have a breeding trio in there, although it would become overcrowded quickly. for the perfect heater go down to wally world and get a 50w tetra submersible filter, i've got a 50w and a 100w and they keep my tanks at 76* perfectly and were only about 15 bucks.

Personally I don't think it's fair to any fish to put them in such a small space but I think a mystery snail and a few shrimp would do well.

I assume you mean not to put fish in the 1.5 gallon........

The 6 gallon seems plenty big for the betta..........

The 6g is fine for the betta, but I can't imagine any other fish that would do well with him in that space. Certainly nothing with brightly colored, flowing fins; he'd see it as a rival and the war would be on. Maybe one of the more interesting snails, such as an apple snail, or a couple of ghost shrimp.
