Bettas + Platys

my 11 yo dau has been begging for a larger tanks than the 2 gallno betta tank she has now. Was thinking of giving her the 10 gallon that I just upgraded from. She says she wants more fish and wants mickey mouse platys. Since I don't want to start lining up tanks in her room (like ours lol) I was curious if anyone knew how a betta would get along with platys.

I would think it would be fine to mix, but bettas have very different personalities. Some i've housed in a community, others couldn't be kept with much of anything.

yea just watch closely for any aggression from the betta directed towards the platies...you shouls have another tank to put them in in case things go wrong, or at least be able to return them to the store

Ya, I know all bettas have their own quirks so there's no guarantee, but I figured platys aren't know to be fin nippers and there's not too much about a platy to set off a betta. was thinking I would just give her the platys out of my 20 so that if there are any problems, I can just switch them back.

That sounds like a really good plan. Bettas are weird. Some are social and some aren't. Just keep a close eye till you know for sure.

it should work, but as the others said every betta has a different personality. worse comes to worse, you have both tanks set up

I've had 3 male bettas over the years living with platties and had no problems.. the platties mind their own business and the betta does too (if not a little curious).

Good to know. I'll leave the betta tank set up for now just in case he has to be moved

Your betta may flare up a little at first, don't freak out if he does. As long as he doesn't attack he'll calm down fairly quickly and accept them.
