Big Plans!

The pleco seems to fit right in, all out & about. I had to wait & maybe squint to see the garras' little white tummies. They seem so small but not bite sized. & I thought your hoplos were little, lol.

The hoplos are 4 inches!! Well, the adults.

Those garra actually have doubled in size and girth since getting them. So far have been doing good. I didn't want them as big as the hoplos moved in yet, as I want them to be more used to them and not see them as a territorial threat as the garra will get a bit larger than the hoplos eventually. But they share a similar area of the tank.

Hoplos have been spawning all day today too. Got the adult male and then his eldest son bickering and both chasing around the leaves in there to build nests.

You have very dainty hands Noodle, lol, & lovely adult-ish hoplos. They're getting so big now! Your "big girl" tank makes every fish look smallish, except maybe the pleco :), a handsome fish!

I know the garras are still young. You know we'll need regular updates on their growth & any more aggro behaviors. I'm guessing they just had a new tank snit & they'll get over it...or pick a different tank end for each to have a territory if there are issues. I don't know how to sex them but they look quite similar to me. Do you think so too? I'm sure you can see more subtle differences in behavior & shape; alpha & omega? or M & F? Time will tell...maybe...So fun!

^^ That pic reminds me of the troll dolls from the 60's! :D

Great thought, Dee, I love it! I guess I had ramshorn or pond snails to keep my mystery snails cleaned up the couple times I had them. I never had that alga problem  .
Jake, have you tried picking off most of algae clump & shortening your lighting photoperiod? That's where I'd start...

I have; but it mostly just grow on the snails.... so it isn't a problem with the plants. I reduced photo period to 6 hours a few months ago; i suppose i could go to 5 but worried it might hurt the flamingo crypt.

I'd just let it grow, I like the way it looks flowing in the water. He actually is just carrying his lunch with him and when he finds a quiet spot, has a bite to eat.
