I have another similar off to make that is similar to the black mangrove kit, but substituting in place of the mangrove trees the exciting new riparium plant mangrove leather fern (Acrostichum danaeifolium).
You can use this easy to grow riparium plant in various kinds of setups. Although they are known as a mangrove fern I have heard conflicting information about their long-term tolerance to brackish water. I suspect that they will grow well so long as the salinity is not raised very high. I am currently setting up a mangrove riparium tank where I will test. A. danaeifolium grows very well in freshwater.
Although wild A. danaeifolium can grow to ~8' tall, it is pretty easy to control the size of these plants--keeping them from between 14" and 24" tall--by trimming the largest leaves and maintaining them in their riparium planters.
This has all the same hardware as the black mangrove kit, but includes the good-sized bare-root mangrove leather fern plants.
