The pond with some Triops
i'm sick of telling people to blanch veggies for me so i tried. harder than i thought lol, since i don't know ANYTHING about cooking/boiling water.

I put a pan of shallow water (which it came from my water box or something... so I don't know if it has chlorine/chloramine in it or not)...

then when bubbles started to show, i put in the cucumber.

after 55 seconds, i turned off the heat and took out with chopsticks (and i still don't know if the chopsticks were just cleansed so it might even have some soap on it)...

soo:
1)will boiling water get rid of chlorine/chloramine?
2)is what i did right?
3)will the cucumber be safe for snails/plecos to eat? with the chopsticks and all...
4)If #1 is a no, will the cucumber absorb the chlorine/chloramine?

please answer asap! My cucumber's drying up and it's out of the pan, still!

whoop-de-do, since nobody answered, i threw the cucumber out.

still, some1 answer my questions for later use, please.

Just rinse of the cucumber, weight it down, and toss it in the tank. I have never blanched, boiled, steamed, microwaved, ect ect any veggies I feed my fish and have never had a problem.

some inverts don't like their veggies raw. rinse, slice, boil it for 1-2 minutes, attach to veggies clip or weigh it down and put it in the tank.

this is true. I assume it's for your pleco (pond snials don't eat veggies IME). if so, you don't need to blanch them.

my pond snails eat veggies... he ate some zucchini... and I don't think i have much algae for him so i still feed him veggies... and he won't eat algae disks

okay, but I still say you don't need to blanch them. my RH eats unblanched veggies all the time.

you've never boiled anything? ever? how do you eat?

you don't have to worry about the chlorine that may or may not be present on a slice of zucchini. think about the three drops of water on it vs. the 20g in your tank. not a big deal. unless the chopsticks have soap suds on them, you'll be fine as far as soap goes. if you feel the need to be extra safe, rinse everything that might be used for the fish three times after washing. that will get rid of any residue.

it's okay if the cucumber gets dry while you're waiting for someone to respond, or if you're watching tv and get distracted, etc, etc. . . it'll be wet again when you put it in the tank.
