blood parrot cichlid mating a firemouth cichlid.

hello again. you are absolutely correct about my pacu.....she (i think?) has grown at a rate that seems unnatural!! and now she is the bully of the tank whereas my firemouth (red) used to be. i think she and Red got into it because Red's mouth is chewed up. it looks bad. i used melafix (tea tree extract) and aquaruim salt like i was advised to and it seemed to help quite a bit. im still worried about Red's mouth, but time will tell. He certainly isn't the bully anymore and i see him hiding out in the caves most the time now. Peachy, my blood parrot, hasen't laid eggs in weeks, but now she won't really go around Red. i don't really know why im babbling about all this, except i enjoy reading your replies and suggestions as im new at this tank thing....thanks again...

I dont buy the severum thing, Bp's(even when young)bear little resemblance to seveums(except the round shape).

How about now???

Ok, so now I'd like to know if cross-breeding is possible for other cichlids - and what the possible outcomes are.

I am attempting to add some females to my group of male severum and it's been difficult to find sizeable green females - I've been offered some Heros notatus as an alternative, but don't want to waste time if they're not going to produce or produce something similar to BP's...

What say yee?

most cichlids will cross breed. I don't promote it but if it happens then as long as they don't leave your tank then no harm is done. Why do you want to cross the two fish?? there is no telling what typ of fish will come of the cross.

Would not want to...wanted to know if it's possible...as posted before, someone(a well known seller of cichlids) offered me an alternative to the female sevs I was seeking...didn't seem like a viable option.

ok good, but there is a chance if there are M of one type and F of the other they will try to spawn......A lot of cichlids will cross breed. If you don't want to breed then you can get the same sex you have?? but also if they do breed you can always cull the mixed fry.

Yes, I understand...

1) I would prefer to establish some breeding pairs

2) I wouldn't be interested in creating some fishes with health problems ala BP

that's why I was checking...now I know I don't want those non-sev females...thx...
