Awww! I used to think that way about them being hybrids, but I broke down one day at Petsmart and bought 2 since they were such a nice color red and $8.99 each..I have had them for about 6 months..lotsa eggs but no fry..I guess my male is infertile...but I still think that they are cool fish..here is ying and yang gurading their eggs..yang has the stripe on top and is the male..I only have these 2 and 2 clown loaches in a 55 gallon

They are really fun fish to keep. Great personalities, fun to watch and the are a blast at feeding time. Like two hungry pigs! :)

Clarification: There are NOT 1000s of species of dogs and cats. There are 100s of breeds and are NOT hybrids. As a matter of fact, the domesticated dog has been known as Canis lupis familiaris since 1993, which means that it was created only from the Grey/Timber Wolf and the Domesticated Cat has been known as Felis silvestris catus, which means that it was created only from the "Wild-cat".

Oh and good job with the "copy and paste" latin. Very impressive! Your my offcial new hero... :)

Anyways, the cheapest around here is around $10 CAD (if you get three, it's only $20 CAD)... But most of them sell it for the above price... maybe it's 5" and more, I'm not too good at approximating the length of fishes by just looking at them...

I'm sorry. Not trying to offend. It's just that those fish are SO FUNNY! I laugh out loud when I look at them. You know the way they hobble around all fat and clumsy and the open mouth expression on their chubby little face. They crack me up. Maybe that's their appeal. lol :joke:

Actually, that was not "cut-and-paste" Latin--I knew those names for years beforehand. (And that is ironic coming from someone who stole an entire phrase from Shirlie Sharpe, complete with the archaic identities of the fishes involved.)

Most of the dog and cat breeds (which the poster, with his wording, implied were hybrids and also said erroneously were "species") do not have intentional malformities and they are screened to make sure that malformities to something as important as the swim bladder or mouth itself are not present.

Count me as "not getting it"--there are quite a few cheap, large cichlids that haven't been put through the genetic wringer yet have all of the positive behavioral traits that the BP has, but people choose that one.

still not a hybrid. just another dog.

We have established a few things here.

1. BPs are hybreds. 2 seperate species are mated to produce them.

2. The analogy of different breeds of dogs or cats is a poor one, since the breeds are the same species. Baring any scientific proof to the contrary, let's drop that subject.

3. Attacking a person because of thier posting style is not OK(though that should have been established when you read the TOS, perhaps we need a remender). Lets all get back on topic and stop with the poor behavior.

YEAH what he/she said.... any way I now have a wonderful and beautiful 9inch blood parrot fish in my 75 gal! the fish adds some needed color, personality, and exoticness (if that is a word) to my now sweeto tank! so lets all stop fighting, we are all here for the same reason, our love and passion for fish:)
