have two longfin bristelnose. they are out all day, feed on the front glass, are everywhere. not shy at all.
it's a 120g, with about 500w light. so very bright, but nofish/shrimp in my tank seems to care about this... lots of plants to hide under, some wood giving shadow and hiding places, too.

Change your light cycle. You will probably see him more.

BN pleco is my one stocking regret. I like the fish, but I hardly ever see her. If I lay on the bed perfectly still sometimes I'll see her. About the only way I ever get a few minutes look is when I put cucumber in the tank - she'll come out for a few minutes, disappear, and then eat the whole dang thing at night.
