I also use it for UG filters to separate crushed coral and gravel in my African cichlid tanks. It would also be great simply placed between the filter plate and gravel, providing much more surface area for bacteria with a much thinner gravel bed. It's also good to use in aquaclear quickfilters because it doesn't clog as quickly as the pads that come with them.
