Ask them if they could get some in. Most of the Petsmarts by me carry the bolivian rams, but sell out of the blue germans fast. But the germans need a temp of 80-86, while the bolivian need a temp of 74-78
I bought two pair of LF Blue Rams from Mike Whiteaker on Aquabid for about what two of those Deathco fish would cost. Both pair are in a bare bottom 10G with nothing more than single sponge filter, a hunk of driftwood and some Java Fern floating around, until I can get their tank set up. One pair spawned in a corner of the tank in less than a week. A weekly 50% water change, feed them high quality food (Live BBS is perfect), and they'll love ya for it. Mike sells awesome fish and he's a great guy to deal with. http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwapisto&1361142248
But blue rams are harder to care for then the bolivian, cause of the temp difference. I'm keeping mine in my 37g, till I get a job and the 46g in a few months.
Anyone who charges $18.99 for a blue ram is nuts.
You can buy them for $5-$8 on a regular basis.
Also, tiger barbs for $5!!?!?!? They are not worth more than $3 for the normal striped variety.
Blue rams can be tricky, but they can also be very rewarding.
I seen the german blues for 6.89 at petco, and 6.79 at petsmart. The LFS near me has the ballon german blue and ballon electrics for around $23, and 38 for a pair. To me, they are kind of ugly compared to the normal german blue rams.
