He's almost 8 inches now and getting thicker. He has no interest in eating any fish. I have had newborn endlers, and .5" fry of other species in there and he pays no attention to them(though my calvus enjoy them ). He does like to eat snails though.
Very cool - I think they come to about 12 - 15 inches at adult.
My LFS had them in last year and I was tempted to do a complete clear out and redisign of my tank for one, but I didn't have the heart to cast loose my current occupants and I didn't think I could get and keep the water hard enough for the eel.

Here are some shots of my elusive male calvus. I can't believe he sat still so long. The sad thing is he's so dark. I was hoping he would be a nice light colored white calvus but he's really dark instead.
