Blue's BC 14

Updates!

I got a bunch of new zoas. Most of them are on the sand now getting use to the lighting. I also picked up a stunner strip for nighttime viewing. The colors are amazing under this light! Too bad my camera can't pick it up accurately. I need a DSLR.

Eagle Eyes

Still unIDed palys. They are a very nice pink with brown skirts

My Green palys are growing

Dragon eye frag. It came with some neat little zoas. They have orange skirts, pink mouths and speckling. I have no idea what they are.

Blue Zoas, there were labeled blue eyed demon, but google didn't show anything that looked like them.

My favorite hermit crab

very nice!

Nice new frags! Looks like your powerhead has a couple of hats as well :).

Small update:

My urchin has been doing great and I caught him eating some of the macros I have growing in my tank. He's also started turning much more blue. Such a neat critter!

My corals are all doing awesome but something is causing some cyano to pop up Not sure what it is. Nitrates are 5 and while I don't have a phosphate kit I do have purigen that is still going strong. I also started running some carbon. I have been keeping the lights on way too long so I set them up on timers yesterday. I cleaned off my powerhead and moved it a bit. I'm having a tough time finding flow that doesn't blow my hammer coral around too much.

I bought 2 small peppermint shrimp that died on me within 8 hours. One got sucked in the pump and the other just keeled over. No idea what I did wrong. I drip acclimated them and everything. As soon as I put them in the tank though my nass snails started chasing after them. Maybe there was something already wrong. Come to think of it, every invert I have had die came from the same tank at the same LFS. If I buy anything else from any other tanks it does fine (corals, hermits, urchin..) Hmm I may need to try another source.

In other news I got some more zoas/palys. I'm liking them quite a bit. One is called blue ice zoas(not sure if that name is right). I also got a purple death and devil's armor paly. The devil's armor is AWESOME! I love the way the skirt curls and under the blue lights's it's a beautiful pink. The purple death has been touchy. If i sneeze it seems to close up. Doesn't help that the urchin keeps moving it around. It looks great though.

Okay, sounds like your doing well! You only made one little mistake...

NO PICTURES! How could you possibly forget the pictures!

As for the shrimp, maybe you should look elsewhere...

The hammer doesn't look too grumpy. If you find a good rock you can place near it you can use that to shelter it a bit. Flow is tought to get 100% so that everyon is happy.

How about a cleaner shrimp rather than peppermints? Peps have been known to much corals if they don't get fed enough anyway and something like a skunk cleaner looks great in a tank. Fire shrimp are beautiful but also tend to hide a fair amount (some eventually get over being overly shy though). Even if you drip acclimate you still need to know what the SG difference is bewteen the two tanks (maybe you checked that, not sure).

Those Devil's Armor are sweet. I have also seen them called Armor of the Gods. Curly Q skirts are very cool!

As for your cyano, the decreased lighting and carbon should help but you have nutrients fueling it from something. Have you ever did a water change by siphoing water and crud from behind the false wall. That tends to be the place where detritus, etc accumulates in the AIO cubes. Might help.
