Hi guys, Do you remove phosphates when boiling water. i know u basically renove the chlorine/chloramine. I know you dont remove the heavy metals, but im outa RO water for now.

I have no clue about the phos. But aren't the heavy metals just as bad for a system?

Boiling water isn't going to remove phosphates. In fact, you're likely to increase the phosphate concentration in the water, since some of the water volume is boiled away.

I'd be less concerned about phosphates (a short term problem that might cause some algae) from tap water and more concerned about any metals (a longer term issue that could result in the loss of invertebrates).

go to your lfs and purchase a good quality tap conditioner....make sure it removes metals and chlorine and use a big non toxic container for mixing and ageing the water for a week or so before your water change....i also stick a big airstone in aswell....ive used this method for 25yrs of keeping fish and never had any water problems but saying that im in scotland and the waters good here in my area.

Thanks for reply. I bought some more RO h2o this morning. Have never heard of a metal removing conditioner though. will scout around and take up that option as im having to top up at least 5 litres daily. RO water is inexpensive so im also looking at increasing stock levels. Thanks again:)

Now that i think of it, the question i initially asked was quite a stupid one, The salution is quite simple. was an emergency though.:)
