Bolivian Rams

I think everyone at some point wonders about themselves. I know I do too.

I want to have an outdoor pond but above ground just not sure how capable I am. I know that I know how to work with power tools and put stuff together and all that because I was taught when I was a kid but I've never done it solo and well stuff is to expensive to attempt then to fail. Then next it's the filtration needed for it and DIY is way cheaper but never messed with that at all in my life.

I only run one DIY filter and that is the pond that is above ground, the in ground pond only has a water pump pushing water and the 3 45gal rubbermaid round tubs do not have anything hooked up, I let plants and mother nature do the rest and whenever we have a rough month like we do in the middle of summer when we do not get any rain for a while i will top off with Tap water.. Don't be too worried about it, its really not that complicated..

But doesn't it have to get cleaned as well? Despite it possibly being big wouldn't it require some up keep besides filtration? This is Cali and rain only comes in the winter and sometimes not that much even then. So wouldn't Water Changes still be needed?

I never do water changes the water volume is greater than the fish, i usually pull the filter pad and clean them about 3 to 4 times the season, the only other thing i do is top off water when we are mid summer do to low rain amounts.. Other than that it is self efficient..

hmmm This is sounding good. I could try doing that then after I put cement on the side of my room. I could make a huge above ground pond and toss my pleco's in there and maybe some live bearers or something not sure. I got a 6.5 x 20 foot section on the side of my room to work with if I got rid of all my plants but if I don't then its 6.5 x 10 foot. How big is yours?

The above ground pond is 10 feet long by 6 feet wide by 2 feet deep roughly around 500gals.. The inground pond is 9 feet long by 4 feet wide by 4 feet deep.. I am guessing that is around 1000gal i could be off but hey it works for me.. I just shut my ponds down when Fall hits and reopen when mid Spring is here usually around mid May.. Plus i set out three 45gal tubs for smaller species setups.. Go for it man you will love it..

45 gallon tubs? Like rubbermaid tubs? Those you do water changes on right? Hey your above ground pond that's made out of those big cement blocks right? I would wanna make one out of wood but that's allot of wood to make something that big. I think I would go about 3 foot deep i got space to go 4 foot wide and length depends on my plants which occupy that area.

Yeah i use cinder blocks i have seen the wood versions and they just do not last like the concrete.. Na i do not do water changes on the tubs either and never an issue.. They are the rubbermaid tubs that you can get from Wal-Mart

Any pictures of the 45 gallon tubs setup and running? That would be easier for me to do outside then a huge pond. Wouldn't mind having some of my T's and C's outside with natural sunlight to help enhance there colors.

For something semi permament outside do a google search for 'rubbermaid stock tank' they're pricier then the rubbermaid totes but will look a lot nicer, locally I've seen the 50g for $60, and the 300g for $225ish, also comes in 70g and 150g.
