bout to give up on my fish

If it was in fact, ich, then she needs to complete the 10 day treatment. Otherwise it's going to come right back and she'll be in the same spot. 10 days of salt shouldn't hurt those fish. I 100% agree with the fresh water, there's almost nothing it won't cure-except ich :-) Do the water changes, but my suggestion is to salt the replacement water.
Zbbal, I agree with you-the 2nd most important thing next to water changes is a test kit. I've had a few dozen tanks for years and I check mine all the time.Random ammonia and nitrites tests, but nitrates pretty regularly. It's one of the best investments you can make. I want to know if I have a problem before the fish start getting sick.

Great info - I'm glad you came in. I've never had to treat for ick - only bacterial infections.

I'll be looking for updates!

yea i nkow but it cant be out of this world innacurate. im not spending like 10 bucks on a kit im only gonna use a few times a year.

In my experience the only difference between the liquid kit and strips is the price, In the long run the liquid kit is much cheaper. Everyone on this board swears up and down that the strips are inaccurate, If you use them according to the instructions they are just fine imo. You should certainly be testing more than a few times a year though, especially if your fish are showing signs of illness or stress.

You should be testing for nitrate in addition to your ammonia and nitrite. Do your water changes, walk back and forth between the tank and the sink if you have to, it's the best way to keep your fish healthy.

Can you please tell us what your tank temp is.

Also, I'm wondering if you added too much salt at once.

I would do the water change.

about 83-85 degreez

maybe last week when i did it i added too much salt at once, but probably not. i got a 5 gallon bucket, and put 110 teaspoons of salt in it, the required amount to treat 55 gallons. i mixed it around, and put the bucket in the water over a period of about 4-7 hours.

but i took out about 4 5 gallon buckets of water. i didnt wanna do 5 or 6 cause at 4 it had a pretty low water level and also my filters had run off for quiet some time now.

i dont know if im gonna lose any barbs in this, one of the littler guys were sure layin upside down a lot

and my two green tiger barbs are lookin kinda ugly. like i said the others were nipping;/kissing the bottom of the top fin thing. now the bottom of the fin is all red and white..its weird i wonder why the barbs were eating the scales off?

and the rams must be pretty stressed out now too cause tyhey lost most of their color

When i was fighting a ich outbreak in my tank i noticed the same behavior from my 2 mossy barbs. They would swim in the hob flow and sorta like lose all body control and be fliped and flopped with the current, would turn over 2-3 times sink a lil then regain control. This went on the whole treatment time, and unfortunatly i lost 2 of them. Im not sure why they were singled out over the regular ones but i never noticed it in any others then the greens. These were also the last fish to be cured of the ich...all others were cured in 3-4 days...the mossy ich lasted 2 1/2 weeks and one of them still had it when i found him floating....maybe just weaker genes?

A test kit is a must have item. Whether it is liquid or strips really doesn't matter. You simply create a centerline and when the kits vary from it you know you have a problem. I will repeat every chance I get that the strips do work as long as they are stored properly and are fresh. They are more costly to use in the long run. You can err just as much with the liquid as you can with the strips if you fail to follow mfg directions.

Back on topic, I would certainly do water changes and keep an eye out to see if there is any improvement with them as a result.

What do you use to condition your water when you add to the tank? This sounds to me like a combination of an infection (ich or something like it) and poisoning (cl or nitrIte). Since you said that nitrIte is 0, I wonder if there is cl in the tank.
