True a couple fighters still want to stand, but 90% want to roll around on the ground. I have started watching K1 fighting, It's pretty crazy stuff.

In the last 2 years I have become absolutely addicted to UFC, have to disagree with anyone who says its more boring now... I think if anything its getting more exciting with the stacked 155 lb and 170 lb divisions. What I dont like about UFC is Dana Whites hesitation to bring more of the Pride fighters from Japan over to the UFC for a few fights.
It seems like the wrestling is just the tactic many of these guys use to take down their opponents so that they can try submissions which to me is one of the most exciting things about MMA. Wresting just seems like the staple that fighters use to get a dominant position on the ground in order to try to submit the guy. Guys like Matt hughes do however rely more on wrestling skills in order to "ground and pound."
Im with you guys though in that i like to see UFC fighters exchange punches standing. Nothing like seeing guys like George St. Pierre who are experts at everything, he proved he is the future of the sport.

Oh yea, and K1 is pretty badass, i just dont get to see it enough.

If you had watched the UFC before White bought it you would agree it's gotten boring. I was comparing UFC now to UFC from 1996. When UFC was first started there were no weight classes and the fighters fought a bracket system where the best two went on to fight in the end. Sometimes people would have to fight three or four times in one event with only minutes of rest between fights. People would break their hand in the first fight and go on to fight two more people, that's exciting. You could see fights with 300lbs boxers going up against a 150lbs Kung Fu expert, and the boxers would get destroyed. Compair that to now where the fighters come from a reality TV show and the UFC is boring now.

i agree that it really is a whole different sport nowdays compared to when it started in the 90's, but i do think it has changed for the better, you guys are lucky that you can see it on tv, in australia, we gotta wait till it comes out on dvd or download it !

I did watch it before Zuffa and as far back as UFC #1 with Gracie and Shamrock. You are entitled to your opinion but seeing people break their hands and have to fight again in a no rules matchup is not a sport and it is ridiculous in my eyes.

And if you knew anything about the current UFC you would know that fighters dont just come from the reality show, in fact some come from the Pride FC in Japan and many have to start from nowhere. The problem with the old UFC is that people make judgements on MMA in general based on the old UFC tournaments that were completely unorganized bloodbaths. They may have caught a few clips from one of those and dismissed it as a chicken fight which it should not be portrayed as.

The current UFC is breeding the best of the best fighters on the planet, the sport is exploding with new talent. IMO, its only getting more exciting and I really look forward to seeing some of the up and coming fighters, not just the reality show fighters and veterans.

Thats a bummer man. Spike tv, an American cable channel plays old UFC clips on thursdays and also we get to watch the Ultimate fight night events for free on spike. There is also the reality show which is pretty cool. Get a satellite dish! haha

UFC is a joke now. I liked it so much better when they had no weight classes and you had to fight 3 or 4 fights in one night. You would at least see people throw a punch. Now it's just 2 guys laying on top of each other trying to get a submission hold.

btw, this is one of the most ignorant posts i have read on here.

i have studied jujitsu for the last couple of years now, had it not been for injury, i would have had my black belt by now, so i give them full credit for some of the ground work that goes on in some fights ( if you think its easy, go try it, because it aint as easy as it looks :) ) BUT!! even i must admit that some ground fights are boring, especially when the fighter is tired and grabs onto his opponent and waits for the bell........ if you want to see a great submission fighter, watch a matt hughes fight!
