I'm having great difficulty finding brackish plants that I actually like, I was wondering if someone else has had any experience with planting a brackish environment.

My tank is a 2ft x 1ft brackish, for my Mudskipper(s), with gravel/calcium sand substrate and drift wood with a temperature varying through the day/night at 25-30 celsius. (77-86F)

I really want something that will rest it's roots in the water or substrate but grow up out of the water, but won't reach any higher than about a foot... or will do but can be pruned.

:help:?

I really don't want to go with fake plants.

Red mangroves? Or some kind of mangrove. It'll get taller than a foot, but so will just about anything else.
Thanks for the quick reply silentcircuit and WeedCali, are either plants able to withstand aggressive pruning?

I did find one I liked, called Dwarf Sag (Sagittaria Platyphylla) but I can't find much information on just how salt adaptable it actually is and whether it grows submerged or not.

I'm going to have to pass on the Rhizophora mangle (red mangrove) it can get from 20-80 feet in height. Something that can get that big is not going to want to be contained in my tiny 2'x1'x'1 lidded tank. *chuckles*

I did find another as well, the red tiger lotus (Nymphaea Zenkeri), gets to 10-15 inches in height, is okay with salinity and is fine with 21-27° C (70-80F).

Anyone got any other suggestions? :)

They grow really slow, though. It'd take years to get that big. Why bother with a lid? Let it grow out the top. Not like mudskippers are going to escape.

Dwarf sag grows submersed just fine. I have some growing emersed because my lighting isnt strong enough to keep it alive in my tank.

You're going to find that those high temps kill a lot of plants too. If you can get it in the shade more you'd have more options. Some of the heartier plants not listed as brackish seem to do well with salt, though I have not tried them at full brackish conditions (but nor far off). Seems like brazillian pennywort and ludwigia repens do ok but either one will die for sure in 86 degree water. I have been surprised how few aquatic plants tolerate heat.

The temperature can be lowered to around 25c - 27c (77F - 80.6F) without a problem, I was having a problem with the heat not leaching from the water to the sand and the rest of the tank but when I made the heater central to the tank it cleared up that problem. :)

Oh, sorry my grammar went awry then, I'm looking for plants that don't mind if they're submerged or not.
