I thought I'd post an update. It's now day 10 since the amano shrimp hatched. A few are still swimming around in the tank. The ones that have molted into the next form are very hard to find because they are almost entirely clear. There are also a few left that appear to still have a yoke sak hanging from them, but they are easier to spot because they are darker in color. The bottom of the tank is starting to become covered with what looks like a brown algae that I assume to be diatoms. I am uncertain how much to feed them, but have been feeding DT's live phytoplankton, and the water is just barely slightly cloudy from giving them a pipette of the stuff each day. I don't know if 95% of them died off or if they are just hanging out in a place that is hard to spot them.
Ive been using my brine shrimp sieve in the tank with a hose in in to do the water changes to make sure I don't accidently suck any out during water change.
How long do you guys normally let new saltwater mixes sit to stabolize before performing a water change? I've only been waiting one day.
I did notice a change in the salinity from when I first set up the tank, it has increased from 30ppt at initial setup to 32ppt now. I think this is because I have been replacing water lost to evaporation with tap water instead of distilled water. I would have expected the salinity to drop, given the salt deposits building up around the top of the tank.
