has anyone ever done it or know much about breeding these cute little things. im going to daves in 2 days and i was wondering how you sex a goby cichlid. i read to look for eggspots on the anal fin but its really hard since its always folded up when he sits on it. i catch a glimpse every now and then but i dont see eggspots. therefore i assume he is a female. is this correct information? and since it is small might it just not have the eggspots yet because it is still juvinille? also what are the breeding behaviors and what can i expect?

Dont exepect to be able to sex most cichlids until they are 2-3 inches long. They may look female because they are sub-dominant in the tank.

:iagree:. Also, remember that the most reliable way to sex cichlids is by venting. The eggspots may appear or not after a few months later.

im going to attempt it. hes the only one in there right now. im going to buy one more this saturday and in the future i might buy another one.

From what I've read about gobies they're holy terrors among their own species, and not much easier on others if they cross the boundaries of their territory. I wouldn't put more than 1 in a 55 if you plan to do a community tank, and would defnitely recommend a larger tank or at least a species tank for breeding.
No personal experience with them, but you could check out cichlid-forum.com for folks who do.
