Brentling's 125 Startup Thread - Lots o' Pics

Glosso is on far right and not easily seen in these pics. It is barely doing anything. It came from the shipper in poor condition... I expect the crypts leaves to die off and be replaced.

Yea, its late (LOL) meant to say HC as they look happy. I'd be a little woried about the crypts as they can be tempermental. I swear I want to rip my tank apart and do bark backing....

Would you suggest re-immersing them? i have a 3 gallon tank they could sit in for a while... Bad lighting and no ferts, though.

Brentling, that is all kinds of a sweet tank. The HC looks great, the crypts look awesome, and the lobelia was a really good call. What else do you have to go in there, plant wise?

On to filling and such. Wot with no fish, you don't need a filter yet, just some water movement, and not much of that. Whenever you thinnk you've got the emersed growth where you want it, chuck an airstone or 2 in there and fill it up (even half way if you want to plant in stages). Alternately, if you want to get the CO2 running, get a cheapie little powerhead off of craigslist. There's always somebody out there selling a melange of aqaurium equipment they have outgrown. Stick it about halfway up one side and run it at low current down the tank to keep it stirred without agitating the surface.

I have several powerheads laying about that would be useful. thanks for the idea. As for plants, I already have a bunch;

* Kleiner Bar Swordplant
* Ludigia brevipes, ovalis, palustris ("narrow leaf"?)
* Nesaea pedicellata - never seen or heard of this one before
* Crystal Val
* Valisneria 'nana'
* Hygrophila corymbosa 'Siamensis'

There will be Anubias growing on the cork, bolbitis, too. I will add more bunch plants as I find them, and lots of swordplants. The rest will be pending what I can find1 :)

Sounds awesome. I love the Kleiner Bar swords. I have one as the centerpiece of my 110XH Bichir tank and a pair I picked up at the catfish convention auction in the loach tank. (Got the camera back together. tophat tank photo tour coming soon.) The one in the Bichir tank has already given me 2 babies rooted, and another 3 on the runner now.

Maybe it's just me, but when I plant vals, they go for about 3 months then melt unless the water is good and hard. They're out of control in my little Tanganyika tank, but in the bichir tank and the Angel tank they don't amount to a hill of beans.

Strategically placed anubias and bolbitis would be groovy as all get out. If you can lay hands on some of the windloev or narrow java fern, those are pretty excellent too.

Between the KBs the Nesaea, and the Ludewegia, it looks like you're going to have a lot of muted reds in there. That could work out really well to play the varying intensities and leaf shapes off each other with the vals' strong verticals.

Ooh, I'm all tingly!

OK, OK!

:)
Brent we need updates!

I have been just watching the HC grow. The Glosso has decided to live, now and is prospering. I will take some pics tonight and give an update. This is starting to get a bit hard, just waiting... I so want to put some fish in there!!
