Um.... Just to interject here....


The IS NO difference between releasing them into a public waterway OR a personal farm pond. If you are going to stock ANY kind of game fish into a private pond you will still need clearance from the local game commission. I know this for 2 reasons. 1st we used to have a private pond, and 2nd, my father-in-law is a game warden.

Also, said game fish need to be of 'legal size' if you have them in an aquarium. Your intentions, no matter how 'noble' are breaking the law as far as I can see.

Not when it's already been cleared with the DNC, but otherwise you would be correct. I didn't realize I would have to dot every "i" and cross every "t" for you people out here.

Yes - who do you think I got the Muskies from? No offense, but I think there are too many busy bodies out there who just love to stir crap up, but hey - I guess everyone has to have their place in life!

Well..... Its not like you made that real clear now did you? Kinda surprised though, that the DNR didn't just suggest you put them right into the pond. :huh:

Didn't mean to flame you. Sorry. I just wanted to correct the there isn't a difference in where they are released.

To those of you whom I offended with this very first thread - I am sorry. I took offense that someone thought I was being "cruel" to my fish and other fishes, and I of course defended that with what I know to be humane treatment of not only the Muskies, but the feeders which they eat.

I know many of you truly care deeply for all fish, and please know that I go to many lengths to make sure that the things I am doing to raise these guys are done right (that's why I'm out here).

Regardless to previous statements - lets let this thread die, and please do know that I am out here to learn as much as I am to share, and please just leave it at that. A lot of you have written to me, and some of you have responded kindly in other threads where I am asking questions.

Alls forgiven on my end, and I hope it can be on yours as well.

To podhead- For those of us who have been here a while, it makes sence. To the noobs it may not. AC used to be the best site for novice fishkeepers to ask advice. There was a breakdown in the administrations here. Many people would bite thier tounge at these types of posts a year ago, out of respect for the moderators who did such a good job cleaning up. If you were rude in any way, advocating poor practices OR proper care, you would be warned once, then gone for good. Now that the administrator is entirely absent, and all but a few of the moderators(who do not have endless power to controll problems) are gone, we are allowed to act as we feel fit. Most of us here are purists, and will strike down anyone who is not keeping thier fish inb the best possible conditions. Im not giving an excuse, but a reason.

Rbishop- I think we can give this guy a chance. Anyone will act defensively when confronted in this way, but he has proven himself that a diplomatic explaination of things will be considered(in another thread) Its not right, but I guess all noobs will have to go through this hazing process to see if they will hold up. Even if he is a bible-thumping, smelly pachiaderm(call me donkeyboy again and you'll have hippies hugging every tree in your yard come the morrow :D) , at least he actually cares about what his actions may produce.
 
I'm all for the OP.

Hopefully I posted responsibly in the other post. I commend him for trying us again and hopefully can learn from his practices, I'd love to have a native tank.

I still hold extreme concerns about how many fish and the type he has in that small of tank. I understand grow out and upgrading tanks sufficeintly early to prevent stunting, but others that read this may not.

How many times have newbies said "I read this" and it is gospel? Or "I'll upgrade when required"?

I am not an expert on pond/wildlife management, but something just doesn't ring true an raising those fish of that number in that size tank for a year just to handle a small fish problem.

I wish him well and will always offer advice/thoughts to maintain the optimum conditions for the situation that exists.

Asking for input then shooting it all down just seems to really torque me off. I guess it would be better for people of that nature to say thanks for the input and move on.


Sly..I wish you luck on your project and hope no problems. Really wish you would reconsider the size tank you are keeping those fish in.

By the way, what kind of small fish are presenting you an issue in the pond?
 
It's got to be a breed of sunfish. They're a plague on ponds, and eat the eggs of bass and other prized gamefish.

Just a guess.
