bristle nose plec

do the spots look like little grains of salt? because thats probably ich, they have the normal pleco blotches and spots though.

Could you post a pic? Normally, bristlenoses are brown or white(albino bristlenose). I haven't seen any with spots. Like blitzen said, do they look like little grains?

There are many species taht are sold as bristlenose plecos. Some have spots(startlight bristlenose) and some have white seams on their fins.

When i bought my BN it is only 1" and was black with white tips to its fins and white spots. This soon faded to her now camoflauge color. She still gets white spots if she is scared.

But you should be able to tell if the spotting is color pattern of Ich quite easily. Ich looks like salt grains(a bit raised) sprinkled on the fish, usually on the fins is where its most noticable.

I would get an ich med made for scaleless fish, jungle labs makes one i have tried before with good sucess.Ich guard 2 by jungle labs i believe it was called.

Plecos, and cories can be sensitive to meds so try and find a med made for scaleless fish but if you can dose regular meds at half strenght.

I would separate is and use a med calles QuICK Cure. It is very good. The directions call for half the dosage for fish like tetras that are sensitive. I would treat the bristlenose seperately in another tank and treat the main take with the half dosage.

Another way to handle it is by raising the temperature slowly to about 85 degrees or so and adding some salt to the water. The raised temperature speeds up the ick life cycle and the salt helps sooth the fish. It's up to you.

WHy would you remove the BN pleco to another then still treat the main tank? I say treat the whole tank(including the BN pleco) with a scaleless med or at half dose. Plecos are also sensitive to the meds.

As for the salt method, I have never tried it with salt sensitive fish like cories. WHenever i used to add salt to my tank with cories they didn't seem to do well and that was no where near the amount you need to treat ich.

But i do agree with raising the temp.
