broken aquarium all over my carpet.. what do i do?

you would think that however..it isn't osmosis it is not live.it is actually wicking action.

the problem is that damp will stop wicking and trapped moisture will stop tansporting up the 'wick'

but heat also promotes mildew

he suggestions are great the ones you recieved. just don't use heat.

industrial vac's work well.. but the issue is that matt under the carpet. it depends on the mat that was in stalled.
the tack strips used as described hold the carpet down and if you remove the furniture where the tank was you may be able to roll the carpet back..remember tho that carpet is stretched on to the tack strips(th over time the stretch is permanent,
I recent removed all the carpet in my living room nearly 1000 sq ft...it rolls back easily.

this will allow access to the carpet backing/matt. at this point it is easy to soak up..most carpets use foam as a matt older carpets used felt.

the flip side if you don't want to roll the carpet back..is slow drying the carpet..use of fans is fine but cool air is used.
dehumidifiers will help keep the moisture down in the room. just don't use the heat style dehumidifiers near the spill.
if you are in a climate where it it still warm try using an ac(air conditioner) these will suck moisture out of the air whiel staying cool.
you should try to soak up as much of the water as possible using vacs etc ..the allow to cool dry use of fans will stimulate air movement and may help the drying time.

I dont know, but I'm guessing if you leave the carpet propped up on chairs to dry, then it's never going to lie flat again.

You can pull up an edge of the carpet wether its tacked into the floor or on strips. its just a matter of tapping tacks back in. U own a small hammer?

I had this happen to me with a 29, i soaked up as much as i could but the floor was still soaked. I left a bunch of towels on the majority of the carpet to wick water away and opened the windows. had several fans blowing around etc. long story short i had to replace the carpet and bleach everything because mold set in, it only took about 2 days. so good luck, and god speed!

Man thats my nightmare, my 55 is in the same room as my guitars, amp, computer, and surround sound with xbox 360 near floor

U should be able 2 get it done no problem my buddy had a 60 gallon break at 2:00 in the morning, all over his pregnant girlfriend. He woke up to her screaming if that wasnt bad enough the tank was his breeding show quality white calvus's. He used a lot of towels and a shop vac we pulled up the carpet and left some blower fans on it to dry for about 2 days.

Ok, so last night the carpet seemed surprisingly dry with the padding removed. i hope the carpet lays flat when i put it back down..

I left some bucket of chemicals that is supposed to pull moisture out of the air down, i sprayed everything with mold inhibitor and odor neutralizer. it did smell a bit like mildew but i think it will be ok.

tonight i'm gunna try to get some carpet padding and lay the carpet back down.

yeah this has been a huge pain because i had so much stuff in that room. guitar, amp, xbox, computer, tv, bed, books, clothes.. all my stuff is dismantled and heaped into one half of the room.. and since it ran into the living room i had to stack the couches up on one side.. i had to sleep at my gf's for the last few nights cause i didn't have anywhere to sleep. luckily i don't think anything got ruined somehow..

Ok, I am pretty pleased with how this turned out..

I bought padding and laid the carpet down. i basically had to lay down on the carpet and push slowly out towards the walls do get the wrinkles out. the only bad thing is that the carpet seems a bit shorter so it doesn't quite tuck as nicely under the molding.

anyway.. i think i spent about 100 bucks and in the end i am glad i used this method. the carpet padding was 40 bucks so it was much easier to just throw it away than try to dry it out.

thanks for all the help!
