bullfrog babies!

i think they are bfs but im not sure bcuz they are already a good size but there are quite a few frogs down at where i got them the size of my thumbnail.

I captured a bullfrog tadpole and I am raising it in my ten gallon. It is my impression that it may take up to 2 years. mine is as big as my blue ram. here is a pic of mine.... lets see some of yours.

It wont exactly take 2 years for it to transform.

They morph quicker in your tank than in the wild. You feed them better and keep them warm all winter.

if it is a bullfrog tadpole, then it will sure take close. well over an entire year.


and yes, bullfrog tadpoles DO grow in excess of 8".

nice observation! Spot on, how can you be so absolutely sure they are bulls?

Ranid tads are a PITA to identify even when you have them in hand. For what it's worth that tadpole looks like a typical American Bullfrog to me (the very discrete round black dots are pretty distinctive) but I wouldn't want to lay that down as a positive ID without looking at mouthparts.

The bullfrog tadpoles that I come across are more olive green and yellow but I agree that the only real way to solve this would be to look at it's mouth parts.

They can get that washed out gray-green color if they come from turbid waters. Bullies are more distinctive when they're little; they have a loose girdle of gold iridophores around their middles.

If your tad passes 3" before transforming, he's probably a bull.
