Button Quail!

They are rather tasty if fixed the right way. I prefer sage and onions.
I couldn't imagine trying to dig through to get meat. I'd imagine that they'd be more bone than edible meat. I think I'll stick to the 5lb range chickens.

YAY!!! We're setting up a meeting time for tomorrow! He has five that were just hatched, three older ones and two small ones of another breed, so, 8 buttons (I don't want to get a random breed). He has some white, blue and brown ones. :D I'll snap pictures once they get here and settle down. :D

As for a heating pad, I was going to use heat tape for them (basically it's the same thing but cheaper and it's usually used in rack systems), but the light will probably work better, especially since I don't have a dimmer or anything similar to run the extra heat tape that I have.

As soon as hubby gets his butt ready, we'll be leaving to pick them up!

They're here!!!

I'll take more pics later, I didn't want to pester them too much. I'm going to move them though, I have them in a tiny tub (I read something about keeping them close to the heat lamp, while giving them space to get away, but not too much), but the guy we got them from had them in a 30L or something, so I'm probably going to put them into the 20L here. I wish I had taken my camera, his breeder birds were absolutely gorgeous. Even hubby likes these guys. AND, I've been wanting a parakeet for some time now, and this guy offered two birds (white/teal and white/blue, which were the colors I've been eyeballing) and a new cage for $30. Petco sells them for $21 per bird, then probably $50+ for cages, so, hubby said that if I *REALLY* wanted them, we could get them next week or the week after. This guy's place was nuts though, he had geese, ducks, chickens, turkeys and all kinds of birds there.

Aren't they?! They're awfully talkative, but they aren't loud by any means. They're only about 1" from beak to butt, so they're still pretty small. They're absolutely adorable though. They're even cuter than the pictures and such online (even the adults are more stunning in real life).

There was a bit of an odor in his trailer (he had a trailer just for the parakeets and hatchling birds and some breeder birds), but, there were hundreds of birds in there, some of which were chickens (he had a few adult chicken breeders in there too). But, all in all, for the amount of birds he had, it wasn't much. The button area didn't have an offensive odor, it was just a cumulative scent from the whole "operation". All in all, it didn't smell half as bad as the petstore... So, I'm going to say no, as long as you keep up with them.
