Cadd’s First Community Tank

You likely do want a dechlor too... ;)

It will not create or contain bacteria, but it will remove chlorine from your water which will likely kill any bacteria you have grown.

Well, of course dechlor is almost always needed ;) but doesn't do much of anything toward cycling a tank. I'm a Prime user for choice now that I live in a chloramine using water district. Sodium thiosuphate used to be fine in previous homes with just chlorine water treatment.

Never say never...

I was at an aquarium auction one time where someone (who I pray is not an active user) bagged a bunch of fish using half tank water, and half tap... No dechlor as they were not specifically told they should use it.

There was a lot of Carnage that morning... :(

Oh, man, how awful!! Just goes to show newbies need to be aware of possibly devastating issues if they don't pay attention...& often oldtimers too, sometimes we forget the basics because we haven't seen a problem... recently. The "rules" are there for some very good reasons!

I was reading up on Tetra Safe Start and read that Prime should NOT be used the same time as TSS. Your opinion?

I just use prime, and it works just fine for me.

No real reason to use anything else... I have no idea why you would want to use TSS at the same time... But I am not a believer in bacterial products anyways tho.

Oh, the only reason I mentioned TSS is because F fishorama mentioned it was one of the fastest way to cycle. Regardless, I'm not in a rush. I'll just keep ghost feeding for now.

I don't why Prime would not work with establishing beneficial bacteria, I've done it. Prime "locks up" ammonia but it is still available to establishing beneficial bacteria (nitrobacter & nitrosomas). & plants can also use it...

Spent some time cleaning the black diamond blasting sand.

To get rid of any dusty and airborne particles

Lots and lots and lots of rinsing and gravel vacuuming

I’ll just leave it like this for a few weeks and allow the mechanical filters to do their thing.
