Camallanus worm treatment HELP!

So i got the feBen drug and have been mixing it with some flake and freeze dried blood worms with a tablespoon of water and letting it soak for 30+ mins by the way its 250mgs powder, but then after the 30 mins i feed them some of the food and then just dump it all in the tank. Im on the 3rd dose but it doesn't seem to be working! What am i going wrong? Am i not doing a high enough dose? Could i give each fish a really strong bath in it? For some reason my lev med hasn't came yet but should be here any day!! That's the one i think Will really work. I hope someone can help me!%

How's it going Blake? I've never had much luck soaking flakes with medication, they just don't seem too permeable. Not sure about freeze-dried but regular frozen food does a better job, ime. I noticed the worms dying almost immediately, at least the ones I could see, when dosing the fenbendazole. I wouldn't take them out of the tank for a bath, but it doesn't hurt to pour it in right by them. To rid the fish completely may take a while and a few treatments. Hang in there.

I have only lost one fish to the worms so far, it was the smallest high fin MM orange female platy, she was really small and i think she is the one who brought the worms in. The other small girls i bought with her grew but she didnt so the worms must have weakened her to much and they finally took their toll on her. I went up to their tank last night and seen my ghost shrimp attacking her and ate half of her tail fin so i put her and the other badly infested one in a hang in tank breeder box and she passed last night but the other one made it so i released her back into the tank but not i gotta watch those friggin shrimp if my platys get too week and are bottom sitting but the rest are way bigger and the shrimp i think wouldnt even try to sample them! I did 3 days of soaking flakes and freeze dried blood worms in a tablespoon of water and 250mg of FENBEN and after 30 mins i just dumped the whole works in there but it didnt seem to be a strong enough does or something cuz it didnt seem to do anything BUT i did finally get my levamisole in the mail but i have no clue how to dose it since its just one big 10gram bag of it so i read somewhere that to take out a 1/4th teaspoon and dump it on the table and then divide the 1/4th into ten even piles and then each pile is good for 10 gallons so i added 2 piles into a tablespoon of water and soaked the flakes and BW in it for 30 mins and dumped the whole works in there and that seemed to help a little bit better cuz they started to pep up and poop alot more and the one female left that shows worms, i can see the worms hanging out alot farther then normal but they are still there so i dont think it was a strong enough dose. So i emailed charles at imkr.com and got some advice from him and i ordered a 5 gram package of his levamisole and that should be here tomorrow or the 6th and when i get his package i know how to exactly treat my fish with his! I did take the carbon out too. So i am just waiting for that to come!! But on a better note, one of my female platys had 15 fry in my HOB breeder box and they just finished their eggs sacs and are eating ground to a pulp flakes now but i want to move them in with my 1 month old platy/swordtail hybrid fry but im not sure if the fry are infected with worms but the 1 month old fry were born in my 20 gallon community tank where the worms are a month ago so they might have them already and another member on here told me if one tank has them then all my tank has them! :( I might just treat all 3 of my tanks just to be sure but do you think it would be safe to move the week old fry into the tank with the 1 month old fry? I just feel so bad having them in the breeder box! :( I just hope i can get rid of these SATAN WORMS once and for all!! Does anyone have any other advice with the FENBEN drug? I have 9 more packets left and each packet is 250mg powder.

Fenben is only for soaking food and not to be poured into the tank. Levamisole is really the best treatment for it for those pesky red worms. If I remember correctly, the treatment is
week 1: major water change, treat, then major water change the next day.
week 2: repeat
week 3: repeat

To dissolve the powdered drug, use some Vodka in a empty drink bottle and shake. I bought a huge bottle for a couple of bucks at the liquor store just to mix fish drugs in. :)

I also purchased my levamisole from a pigeon supply company for cheap. The brand name is Vermisol and I bough mine from Jedds: http://www.jedds.com/-strse-1524/Vermisol/Detail.bok

Sorry you lost one, but that isn't too bad. It's safe to assume they all have the worms, even fry can eat the eggs. I've never used levamisole, although it's more water soluble it won't kill the eggs. The fenbendazole can be made more soluble by grinding the powder as fine as you can, then let it dissolve in a cup of water first along with some food.

Re: dosing the fenbendazole, 250 mg is 1/4 gram. How big is your tank? That may not be enough. I've used 500 mg or more in a 12 gallon qt

its a 20 gallon tank and the fenben is a really fine powder and its specifclly for aquarium fish. The bottle came with 12 packets of powder and each packet is 250MG, its made by thomas labs inc i think, they a whole bunch of fish meds like fish-mox and the one i used was called i think fish-bendazole. You think if i get the worms out with the levamisole that then if i put the fenben in the water that the fen would kill the eggs in the water? Im still gonna treat every week to be sure and gravel vac. It just sucks gravel vac cuz my tank has about half a dozen rooted plants in it like dwarf lillies and some amazon swords and a few i dunno what they are. I got them at walmart, they were by the fish stuff and they were seeds in a package so i popped two of the bulbs in and only 1 grew and the back of the package said if one fails to grow then to mail the one that didnt grow to them and they would send me a new one so i mailed it and i didnt get one back, i got 2 DOZEN different kind of bulbs back of all sorts of kinds and they were still wet and brand new and everyone sprout! Even my LED light is growing all them surprisingly! I should be getting my new package of levamisole from charles tomorrow and im gonna do like a 90% vac and then will treat and the after a day i might throw a dose of that fenben in there to kill the eggs but i want some advice on that to see if that is a good idea or will even work!!

fenben is only for feed, not for water. Flubendazole can be used in water. Inmkr sells it:

I would stick to the levamisole only - don't mix drugs. Levamisole works if you treat once a week for 3 weeks.

Absolutely incorrect. I've successfully used fenbendazole only to rid 2 tanks of the worms. Spent a total of $7.50, and still have some left over. Poor Blake keeps getting poorer, but internet myths die hard.

Here's a shot of my ram laying on the bottom literally being eaten alive. The worms can travel throughout the fish's body laying eggs inside and outside, so you need to make sure that the eggs get killed as well or they'll crop up later.

Here she is now.

I'm skeptical about information whenever someone is selling a product aside from books.

i got the lev from charles at inmkr and finally got the correct dose, im currently taking 90% of the water out of the tank right now and already have the lev mixed up, its just a pain to vac my 20 gall cuz its sooo fricken planted and i dont wanna hurt the plants. I dosed my betta tank already since i vaced that a day ago but im not sure they have it but im doing it as a precaution! I really wanna dose my fry tank but i dont know how i would dose a 1 gallon tank and i just sucked it up and put the new fry in with the old fry but i took extra precaution not to get ANY of their water into the fry tank since they were coming from the 20 gallon. They 1 gallon is just temp untill i can get enough cash to get a filter since these worms used up alot of my money!! I did read your thread jannika, like all 15 pages of it. Another member refered me to it, kaosku did and it seems like you guys went through hell as well!! I have been hearing that fenben works in water or only works in food and not the water, just wish i knew the truth about it! The lev is nice tho since it is clear!! Well back to vaccuuming my tank!! I hope the shock from all this doesnt kill any of my fish and it really sucks that my tank just got cycled 2 weeks ago, im sure its back to day one now!! Just hope the bio-wheel works like it says!!
