Can any fish be put with bettas??

ok, awesome. Thanks for all of the input everyone. So far I have just the betta and the plants. I think I will give the plants a little more time to settle in and get everything planted exactly the way I want it (I have a tendency to want to rearange everything. lol) Then once everything is planted and starting to establish themselves I will add 3 panda cories and then a little after that a couple ottos. Thanks again everyone for your input. :D

would the betta, 2 panda cories and like 2 ottos work in a 10 gallon? or would that be too much of a fish load?

i've had bettas that will viciously attack cories and otos, I've also had bettas that were so obsessed with their reflection that nothing could divert their attention. It just depends on their personality and temperment.

It is recommended that corydoras and otocinclus have at least a 30 gallon tank. The otos are small, but in my experience, they don't tend to live long in a 10 gallon. The cory cats that you get should at least be the smallish ones, like the panda, or even the pygmy. The julii would probably not like such cramped quarters. The reason people recommend a group of corydoras is that they like to school, which is very difficult in so small an area. Even a 30 gallon cuts them off rather quickly.

Don't put a female betta in with him. He will kill her. She can only be in there if she is ready to breed and you have to watch and get her out again.

If you house a betta in with any tetras or barbs, watch for fin nipping. Give the betta a nice corner with floating plants and plenty of cover. The betta will establish a territory that they are comfortable to defend against lone invaders. They hopefully will not interupt a shoal or school of hostile fin nippers and if interaction between the shoal and the betta are inevitable, such as in a small tank with no cover, there will be problems.

My betta Swimmi is just fine with two platies, two harlequin rasboras, and a long finned guppy. I wouldn't recommend those for just any betta though, mine just seems particularily placid. Contrary to popular belief, bettas don't seem to mind brightly colored fish, but mine viciously attacks fish that are darker than he is (ex the black balloon molly I had with him didn't last too long :( ) I would try two khuli loaches personally with yours, otos like bigger space, and the khulis are just fine in smaller quarters.

Oddly enough, if you like cherry barbs they are an option as well. . .though I wouldn't house them with any other fish except bottom feeders, my two cherry barbs were wierd, they ignored my bettas long flowing fins, and as soon as I put some platies and rasboras in with short tiny fins, they would totally try and nip them. . .never touched the betta though. . .odd prolly too scared I would expect ;)

I have the same question, i was about to post it. I have 1 male betta, and 1 cory (i used to have more), Do they get along with neon tetra's? I wanted to get maybe 3 small fish, smaller than zebra danios (as a change). Any suggestions??
