Can any fish be put with bettas??

It depends on the size of your tank. Corydoras need to be kept in groups and need at least 30 gallons so they can school. Neons also need a 30 or larger tank and would probably be ok with a betta, but they might be attacked in a smaller tank, and anyway that's too stressful for them. The size of a fish isn't necessarilly an indication of the size tank it needs for optimum health.

i dissagree that corys have to have 30 gallons sure they prefer larger groups which are only possible in the larger tank.

but they do nicely a group of 4 pandas or dwarfs would be perfectly content especially since the tank will be planted and presumably have lots of little spaces to explore

you really should try to stick with the smaller varieties tho, usually a store can either order them for you or put you on a list to be called when they get them in. it's worth the wait- no rush right!

Is your disagreement based on experience and research? Certainly they can be kept alive, but knowledgeable people all know groups are necessary and if you watch them you can see that they can't school in a small space. The stress of unsatisfactory conditions is what keeps them from living as long as they can when they aren't stressed. Possibly the dwarf cory cats would be OK in a smaller tank, but not the pandas. ok, but what small fish would you recommend i put with the betta? i don't want any bottom feeders.

Oh, I see you say 5 gallons, which is not large enough for any fish but a betta. If you look on the site I gave above, you will notice that most fish need at least 30 gallons. In your tank, the betta should be the only fish. You could add some colorful snails or shrimp, but no other fish. He is so crowded that it is almost a sure thing that he'd attack any other fish anyway. They tend to get along much better with other fish if you put them in a 30. That's been my experience, anyway. They also enjoy plants and caves. Here is a good site for them:

thanks for the info. I hope to get a larger tank one day, when I have more room hehe.

Is that your betta in the picture? He's beautiful. I know of one that attacked any fish put in the 10 gallon with him, but in a 30 he doesn't bother any of the other fish and they all leave him alone as well. He even made friends with the kuhli loach for a while.
