can fantails and orandas be mixed? also do i have room for anymore goldfish?

Just make sure that she has adequate aeration and give her a little more time to adjust. You didn't mention anything about red streaks or protrusion of scales. She doesn't have any other symptoms except side floating, right?

What "fish protector" are you using? If it's Prime ( which is good) too much can decrease aeration levels in the water, just FYI.

I think perhaps in this case, the less you add the better, unless there are other symptoms that you need to treat. It's really hard to sit and do nothing, but right now, clean water and good aeration may be the best thing for her.

plus they had clean water in the 55. theres only a small chance its the silicone. i asked on two different forums to make sure it was ok and provided a link.

I have used epsom salt baths for fish with bloat with some good results, but I wouldn't recommend it with this fish right now. I would let it go for a day without attempting to feed it. If she looks stronger, then I would look up using an epsom salt dip. Others may disagree, but it sounds as if this fish has experienced enough trauma that an epsom salt bath may not be the ticket right now. If it is not the silicone, and you are pretty sure it isn't bloat, then I am not sure what it could be, AAF.

Incidently, I have two fancies who are side layers. One is a telescope who is blind, and got used to swimming with the good side up, and has just continued to do so. The other is an older fish. Both feed very well in that position, but they aren't pretty. The weird thing is that when I put the two fish together in a smaller tank ( they had been in a 60) they spawned! Have faith, all may not be lost. Just try to be patient and watch for any changes in symptoms.

so something else ive noticed. she will try to upright herself and then fall on her side again and then try to get up again and then fall on her side.

ok so today i think there might be some progress. instead of just laying on the ground she floats around the tank. she doesnt float at the top though. she does flips and stuff though and swims upside down sometimes. so i think its a swim bladder problem. should i try epsom salt or try and feed her some blanched spinach? or peas? although i heard the pea thing was a myth.

I cannot answer the silicone question for you, but I can tell you that the pea thing is not a myth. Neither is the fact that an epsom salt bath will cause a fish to defecate. Goldfish really like peas that you have cooked, taken the shell off and mashed up. The fiber will cause their system to clear out, much like if we eat a lot of salad or veggies. I don't think it matters whether you use peas or spinach. The principle is the same. They just like peas.

I would use an epsom salt bath as a last resort. I believe there are instructions on how to do that on the GAB boards. Glad to hear that there is slight improvement.
