Can fish intermate?

Impregnate is the correct term to use for animals that store sperm packets. Clearly, more than one animal is involved, but the female with the sperm packet impregnates herself. This is actually quite common with fish and amphibians. Consider newts--in many species, the male leaves a packet on the ground, and the female simply picks it up when she finds it, for use later. The male and female never even see each other!

Wow, those male newts have it all figured out! Actually, the whole newt thing has evolved into the modern sperm bank I suppose...

Sorry OrionGirl, I never heard the sperm packet story for livebearing fish. Could be for amphibians but I can't say. I do know, as ...chicken says that she stores the MILT inside herself and uses it for further eggs. Can be up to about 6 consecutive times. Some species of livebearer such as Goodeid do not do this and have to recieve milt from a male each time to have a viable spawn.
