The tap water conditioner by aquarium pharmacieticals is it true that you can use that stuff for 1 drop per gallon?

If so it would be cheaper than prime because it is only 4.13 per bottle.

i don't see how it does anything but remove chlorine.. so while it may be cheaper, it doesnt do as many things as prime does.

you get what you pay for.

In the product description it only states that it removes chlorine...not chloramine (present in most US tap water system). Nor does it claim to detoxify Ammonia (which is a by product of chloramine removal).

At least that is what I've noticed from the product description on their website.

The only problem is:

This tap water conditioner instantly neutralizes chlorine, which is toxic to fish. Either chlorine or chloramines will be present in water provided from public water supplies. This neutralizes only chlorine. Made in USA. Not FDA-approved. Use as little as one drop per gallon of water; one ounce for 587.5 gallons; one cup for 4,700 gallons.

Prime removes chlorine, chloramine, and detoxifies ammonia. Not the same thing.

It says use as little as 1 drop per gallon. Normal municipal water supplies treated with only chlorine would most likely need 2 or more in my opinion.

I'm looking at my bottle right now-

To remove chlorine and detoxify heavy metals: Add 3 drops for each 2 US gallons of tap water being treated.
To detoxify chloramines (break the chloramine bond: Add 6 drops per 1 US gallon of tap water.

TIP: To detoxify the ammonia released from chloramines or produced by fish waste use AMMO-LOCK
So, no, it won't remove ammonia, and that's why I have a bottle of Am-quel sitting right next to this junk. :o

Well if you take out the fact that prime removes other stuff which one would i get more for my money?

I mean $4.13 for a 16 ounce bottle that you may use a few drops more for, vs. prime that cost $10 something for 8.8 ounces.

For my purpose i have so many fish that i want to just make the water liveable because i will be doing so many water changes on each tank that it won't really matter abou the extras.

I do currently 100% water changes every 2 -3 days for 30 gallon tanks, until i can get the next tank which will be in a month.

if you buy this stuff, you'll be spending more money on things that you need to neutralize the chloramines and ammonia, than if you just bought prime.

For bacteria killing sake, chlorine and chloramine are the same thing. Mostlikely your water has chloramine in it instead of chlorine, it;s just a better chemical as far as the water company is concerned. It's added to kill bacteria. If you use a product that breaks down chlorine and you don't have any chlorine in the water, you're not doing anything.

Cost aside, prime does what you need where the other stuff does not.
