I'd say that tank (in the OP) is actually quite sparsely decorated, by european standards anyway.

There was a 65g display tank at my LFS set up with about twenty 12" long plastic pirate ships piled up inside - now THAT was too many decorations

Pshaw! Sounds like art to me!

In one LFS I worked at, we had the official "tacky tank," complete with pink gravel, an assortment of bubbling ornaments and fluorescent pink and blue plants. I soon learned to stop calling it tacky in front of the customers, because some actually liked it. Tastes can be so variable.

Back to the original question, though, you're not overdecorated.
