Canister Filter suggestions?

Since you said around $100,depending on your stock,a Eheim 2215 or 2217 would be my choice. They are very quiet, and only need to be opened every 3 or 4 months(or more). They will keep you water crystal clear. Kens fish has the best prices on them.
With shipping, one will be a bit more the $100,but worth every penny.

Noise is a relative term. If you only have 1 tank in your bedroom then I suppose to some a barely audible hum from a canister or trickling water from an HOB or popping bubbles from an aerator might bother some. But in my opinion the Mag 350 is dead quiet if cleaned, assembled and purge/primed correctly, its the results Im after and without the slightest doubt a magnum 350 packed by me with double circumference lays of blue bond and split poly batten, would out clean, out perform, and out endure any mid size (100G) basket canister filter on the market, without the slightest doubt.

If however you have your hart set on a basket canister design, I understand completely and recommend the Sunsun 304 for $43, becasue as stacked basket canisters go it has attributes that allow it to perform every bit as well if not better then the most expensive big name basket canisters in its class. So for the value why pay more.

I have 6 mag 350's within 10 feet of me in my living room. The only filters I hear are the two hang on backs splashing water into underfilled tanks.

One starts and stops every 10 minutes on timer. It runs a skimmer that sucks too much air and is self bled on the off breaks. Yes I hear it start every time.

I heard Mag350s tend to be a bit on the noisy side.

Magnums can be noisy if they are not set up just right. They can be a little finicky to get quiet IMO but they are an excellent filter. Right now, I would go with the Sun-Sun, like others have said, the reviews have been great for the price.

agreed on the sunsun, a few weeks ago it was only $43 on ebay(minus shipping)
kensfish has some filters that are in the $100 range but they'll likely pass your budget after shipping and buying media

Thanks for all the great recommendations. I'm probably going to go with the Sunsun for the time being. But a Magnum is definitely in my future. :D

You guys/gals are great!
