Canister Filtration

I love my eheim pro II 2028. I use to have that on my 55 gallon and it did a great job. I had a cascade 1000 for a while and it did an ok job. After a year it wasn't working as well even after cleaning. The cascade filters do have a lot of bypass. The marineland c series are great filters as well and a bit cheaper.
 
I have the Eheim PROII on my 65g and I love it. I have to look at the water surface movement to see if it's running ( i turn it off when feeding and sometimes forget to turn it on). It does a great job and is easy to maintain. Parts can be pricey, you got to shop around.
 
Also, if you want low current draw($$$$), Eheim is great. My power company often forgets to feed the tredmill mouse and I lose my power. It went on too long one time after I just finished cycling my tank so I grabbed a good sized UPS from my computer and it ran for about 4 hours.
 
Life is too short not to use Eheim. I use 3 Eheims. They work like a charm and are dead silent.
 
I'm an Eheim fan. They are such quality filters. It's not uncommon to run into someone that's had the same one running for over 20 years. There's almost no bypass so you get the most out of whatever media you choose to use, and the motors are so strong that I only have to get in mine for maintenance about every five to six months (and there's very little reduction in flow during that time). I have the 2026 on two of my tanks and it's a little workhorse of a filter, VERY easy to perform maintenance on and BECAUSE I have replacement parts on hand (O-rings and impeller/shaft), I've never needed them (Murphy's Law). I also use the Classic series (2211, 2213, and 2215) and even have the Wet-Dry (2229) one. The ONLY drawback to the Eheims is parts availability, so just go ahead order them when you order your filter and keep them on hand for the possibility that you MAY need them someday FAR in the future. Long run the Eheims!
 
I have XP3s & like them but like BFM, it's the only kind I've had. Eheim has a great reputation...I'm too cheap to try them :o. I also run HOBs, 2 filters on most tanks.
 
i'm cheap... my cascade 1000 does well on my 50. i don't use the original media either... i'm cheap. if i had known about sunsun i would have bought that and saved myself some money.

ps. i can't stand the sound of an hob. my whisper 30-60 drives me crazy to no end when there's no sound in the living room. if it weren't for 2 kids and a father in law that have to have the tv running all day it would be gone or on a tank in another room.

Bigals has every single Eheim part and their prices are great.
 
For that size tank and the fact that your going to keep your HOB filter on the back, I highly recommend the Marinland 360 clone (IMO) known as the Sunsun 100G canister. I have found it to be very well designed for minimal bypass, large volume, very good GPH performance, and at an excellent value of $43 on ebay
