Just curious about how you all protect your carpet? I will most likely be moving to a carpeted place shortly, and am a little nervous about leaving the polished wood floors behind! :eek3:

I'm still rather prone to idiot newbie mistakes with syphons/hosing, and have 'blessed' my wood floors many many times *oh the shame* :shakehead:

Have any of you laid down something 'special' to protect carpet, and how did you do it?

Many thanks for all and any replies!! :help:

Honestly, I'll just toss down an old beach towel, and keep it handy for any future water changes. I do my best not to spill, but the inevitable splash (even those created by the fish playing around at the water's surface, not necessarily myself) does occur. My bed is also near my fish tank, so I get a couple drips on the edge of that every now and again too. I guess the best tool I have is patience... just be steady and slow with it, and all will be well.

the only problem i really get with my carpet is my gangly arms dripping after i remove them.. my hands are in the tank so much, that i mounted a towel hook and towel on the wall beside each tank. Then i can grab it and dry off immediately.

since my room tank is only 2.5 i just place my bath towel right there so i can dry my hands right away, if not ill just be filthy and wipe my hands on a dirty shirt or something.

maybe invest in a wet-dry vacuum? they're good to have around anyways, and people will wonder why the spot under your tanks is the cleanest part of the carpet :)

i used to just put a towel down during water changes.

I tend to keep a towel around my neck when doing water changes to dry my arms off. I did ruin a patch of carpet in my living room - I had a stand made of pressboard, and it was unfinished on the bottom. I spilled some water and it got damp, and became a perfect media for mildew to grow. It stained the crap out of the carpet. I know now that any time I put down a wooden stand on carpet, I'll either paint the bottom, or put down a plastic bag or something as a barrier.

Bath or beach towel on the floor and a couple of hand towels for my arms, glass, equipment, etc.

I put two large towels down on the carpet since my arms are in and out and dripping and have a supply of old kitchen towels in the cabinet of each aquarium that I use to dry my hands while I'm working or whatever. Another great floor protector would be to purchase a cheap vinyl tablecloth and throw that down.

ive got a towel under each tank.

in fact, i get bugged more if i get the hardwood floors wet than the carpet. ive had my share of spills on the carpet. i still do every once and while. but when one uses buckets, its a little easier to spill than with a python...:D
