Cascade 700 help

Just replied to your pm

And for everyone else I filled it up first, helps to speed things up:)

That is very strange. You did mention that yours didn't have the media basket joint, is it possible you misplaced it? Without that I don't see how the motor could suck up the water and send it back into the tank.

I didn't lose it. I placed everything on my table when I opened the box and there was nothing that even resembled the media basket joint. I may have to order the part from the company. Also the intake strainer connection cracked in several places when I attached it to the ridgid pipe.

ouch sorry to hear:( Hopefully they get everything cleared up for you!!

I heard back from Penn-Plax customer service and they said that the media basket joint is now a part of the housing which I suspected. After 4 hours of messing around with the filter I am frustrated with it. I will try to get it set up again but this time I will not fill it first and try primming it to see if water actually flows into the canister.
Thanks, Brandon, for your help and advice. I hope the canister filter starts up this time.

When the basket is empty you should be able to hear the water flowing in when you pump the button. What I ended up doing was just kept pumping till water came out of the spray bar, then I plugged it in and it worked, hope you can get yours started!

Thanks again. I'll have to work on it when I do my next water change so I can see when the water starts pumping out of the spray bar. So it will be in a few more days. Thanks for all you advice and help.

I had the same problem with mine, just had to keep really pumping hard until I heard the water running into the filter. After that initial prime it works fine, the instructions should be changed from "Push primer button 3 or 4 times" to "Push manically on the primer button until you hear water"....... I found I had to really push down on the button.
