Cat-proofing my tank

I can relate, we have several birds but we have one lone lovebird who lost his mate of several years about a year ago and I refused to let my husband get another one, so my husband felt sorry for him and he now has free roam of the house and I am always afraid I will forget to close the lid on one of my tanks and he will decide to take a bath and drown.

My cat is actually protective of the tanks he watches every move I make towards them especially the bettas he is especially attached to them. He sits on my livingroom couch for hours just watching them. I agree usually to get them to stop doing something they are not supposed to a spray bottle usually does the trick cats are not supposed to like water they say. That's my cat in my avatar in his usual place on the couch watching the fish lol. How many gallons is your tank? It looks similar to mine I have a 36g corner bow.

I keep ragdolls as well as a few other breeds.

the ragdolls always keep me company as i work on the tanks. for the most part my cats stay off the tanks.

but all my tanks in the house have canopies or a shelf above so the cats cannot stand on the glass.

I like keeping fish but love my cats.

if I had to choose I'd keep the cats.
my fish don't cuddle at night and keep me warm. ;)

I tried the aluminum foil trick last night. Just as a test, I put a sheet of it on a chair in front of the tank (in fairness of the experiment, the cat's lay on a chair I put in front of the tank for them all the time).

Well, the cats could see the aluminum foil on the chair, so they sniffed it, stared at it, walked around it, touched it cautiously, decided it wouldn't hurt them, then hopped on up and sat right on it.

So, maybe the element of surprise is needed, or maybe it doesn't work if it's placed somewhere they are normally allowed. But now I have two cat's that don't seem to care about foil, and one who doesn't care about getting sprayed with water.

Ragdolls are awesome cats.

I'd get rid of the fish before the cats without even a second thought. Although water changes are better than cleaning out litter boxes...

lovin the cat blender, although when I saw the link, i thought it was somethng else.
Anyway I bet there are easier ways to make such a devivce, for about $10.

Hmmm...

mine use to sleep on mine in the night, so i use to "hit" him to get him down and then shout and point and hit again, he only ever done it 1 more time after this.

hit them just on the top of their back legs, doesnt harm them just shocks them a little. dont hit them too hard tho lol.

or as the vet told me to do, spray water at it as a deterant
