Celestial Pearl Danio experiment - success!

Hey Aaron,

Yeah - about a dozen. I bought 20 or so from a fella in Pennsylvania. I put some in my large pond/stream to see what would happen (no idea BTW - too many plants to tell) and the rest I put in the 40 gallon tub w/a lot of hornwort (from my pond) and the fountain pump. It is probably too late for this year but it has worked great for me so far. I'll have some for sale in a month or so - the ones in the 30 are doing great. I have only been feeding them live foods (bbs and microworms) so I'm a little concerned about selling them to people w/o live foods. I have a 10 that is empty - I am going to put a few of the larger ones in there just to see how well they adapt to flake/powered foods - what most will be able to feed them. They blossom on the live food though - really fun to watch the little guys dart around catching dinner.

Hey all,

Not been on here for a while but wanted to update this thread. I have brought all the CPD adults inside for the winter and now have dozens of CPD's in a 30 gallon high - really cool to watch. I have two groups - one stays towards the top of the tank darting back and forth and the other stays near the bottom darting through the plants. They are doing great and growing up! I am feeding them almost exclusively bbs - some microworms and occasionally crushed flake. I will have several dozen to offer next year when the weather warms - I will also put a breeding group back outside to continue their success and continuation in my offerings.

Hope all is well with you,

Thanks and let them grow a bit more and we can meet up in Paintsville again for a "fish" exchange. They are doing great!

Great thread! I would have never thought to try this with CPD's. I may give it a try next summer :thm:

Agreed. I think I might have found a fun summer project with the kids in this. My summers aren't as long as yours in Kentucky, but even a couple months of this could be pretty fun, and allow me to sell some stock to the LFS that I seldom see around here.

Awesome, I'd love to see a big tank full of tiny CPDs! *cough*video*cough* :D

This is an awesome idea. I live a little north of you in Missouri and think this would be a neat project. One question though. If you get a heavy rain don't you lose some fish out of these tubs? Do you use a screen to prevent this?
