Celestial Pearl Danio experiment - success!

Awesome thread! Would love to see some pics of the 30G now. (hint, hint):D

awesome! Brilliant! Now i just need to convince mom that we "need" some big tubs so i can try it out. :D

Hey all and thanks. No screen or covering but I do have a heavy planting of hornwort in the tub with them. I will try to get pics or video - they never hold still! I also had guppies in my outdoor pond but they didn't do as well as they have in the past for some reason. Maybe there were too many and I didn't feed them often enough, who knows.

Later,

Maybe a predator?

edit: I keep my guppies outside, with some molly fry, during the summer, and one time when i was checking on them i saw that a water spider (the big brown ones) had caught one of the mollies and was eating it. That could be whats happening.

Well - its CPD experiment season two! I put about a dozen each of my CPD's in two 40 gallon tubs this year. I had GBR's in one of the tubs last season - they lived but didn't breed (not that I could tell anyway). So this year I decided to use both tubs for CPD's. I already have a good growth of hornwort in one tub and put some naja grass in the other - it came from my tank so it needs to grow a bit to cover the tub better. I may add some hornwort to it also if the naja doesn't take off (I have some in a lower pond doing well). Here are some pics of the 30 that I have used to grow out the babies and to over winter the adults from the tub. They have done great and are ready to find new homes to make room for more babies this year. :) There are probably close to 60 of them in the 30 right now AFTER taking out 24 or so for the tubs. Hopefully will be able to double the amount this year!

grr i may have to do this with a kiddie pool outside ( or maybe a rubbermaid tub? ) and get guppys to start with... yes i htink i WILL do this! thanks! ill update once the project is underway! lol

Hey livebearer,

Go for it! I put a bunch of guppies in my upper pond already, they do great outside. Just make sure whatever container you use is drinking water safe - some tubs are made from recycled plastics and can leach toxins into the water. I found this out the hard way! I would think a kiddie pool would be safe or any of the watering tubs for live stock.

Good luck,

lol if i go with this ill follow your plan with a bunch of live plants but ill prolly be useing a 20/30 gallon rubbermaid tub and stick it outside on my porch then bring in for the winter, thanks for the idea lol.
